In 1964, rCA discovered various electro-optical effects of liquid crystal, namely, host effect, dynamic scattering effect and phase shift storage effect.  The binned-host effect is the rearrangement of polychromatic dye molecules (binned-host) and nematic liquid crystal (host) under the action of electric field, resulting in color change.  The dynamic scattering effect is the confusion of molecular arrangement caused by electric field in transparent liquid crystal.  The phase-shifting storage effect is the passing of light energy through a pair of orthogonal polarizers sandwicked with liquid crystals.  Liquid crystal display devices based on twisted nematic field effect are widely used in electronic watches and calculators.  In this device, polarized light rotates in a liquid crystal;  If an electric field is applied, the distorted structure fails and light cannot pass through.  Twisted nematic liquid crystal not only responds slowly (0.1 seconds), but also has a small threshold slope, so it limits the number of rows selected by the matrix and is mostly used for single-character display.  Liquid crystal display devices and liquid crystal light valves and liquid crystal and thin film transistors made of the display board.  Because of its low power consumption and flat panel display, liquid crystal display device is one of the important development directions of display technology in the future.
